Anger

At first glance, the large space at the entrance of the town seems like just a big parking lot. But it is far more than that: what the locals still call “Anger”, is a main event site for Bad Berneck. Whether the Maypole festival, flea market or circus: On the Anger, the Bad Berneckers meet to celebrate.

The Anger – the word has Germanic roots and means ‘the village square’ – has a rich and eventful history. Until 1977, the “Export Beer Brewery Berneck,” which supplied the town and its visitors with the finest specialty beers for nearly one hundred years, was located here. This was also the point of arrival for the coaches which brought the spa guests to town. After the demolition of the brewery, the Maintal shopping centre was constructed on the site; next to it is the fire station. The former school building at the back of the Anger is now used as a Health Centre.

Tip: At the playground at the rear of the Anger, there is a wooden bridge over the river Ölschnitz. If you take the stairs on the left, you arrive at QR 14 and 15.
